This journal article in Cities and Health 24 Feb 2023 (advance article) explores the impact of different types of greenspace on the mental health of young people living in London. It draws on analysis of longitudinal data covering 10-15 year old adolescents.

The findings indicate a lack of consistent results across analyses but identifying two patterns worth exploring further. Older adolescents seemed to benefit more from greenspace than younger adolescents; and parks and gardens and outdoor sports facilities seemed to be most beneficial in mental health terms.

The authors discuss the findings, suggesting that no clear conclusions can be drawn overall and findings need to be confirmed in further studies.
