The Knowledge Exchange has shared the Make Space for Girls report.
This provides an overview of existing evidence on teenage girls’ access to and use of parks.
The report highlights the work of the Make Space for Girls project which campaigns to ensure that parks and open spaces are designed with teenage girls in mind. It discusses the unsuitability of current park facilities for teenage girls, and explains the reasons why teenage girls are excluded from such facilities.
The report considers the health benefits of accessible and inclusive parks for teenage girls and discusses the adoption of a rights-based approach and local government’s obligations. It highlights issues relating to intersectionality, provides an overview of research on what teenage girls would like in their parks, and points to some examples of good practice.
