The Marine Conservation Society and Natural History Museum are running the Big Seaweed Search.
This is a great opportunity to better understand, protect and manage seaweeds.
You don’t need to be a seaweed expert to get involved. The webpage shares a guide that explains what you need to do and some top tips on how to identify each of the seaweeds.
The British Isles are globally important for seaweeds, which play a significant role in ocean ecosystems by providing habitats and food, storing carbon and producing oxygen. The Big Seaweed Search focuses on three key environmental changes: sea temperature rise; ocean acidification, and the spread of non-native species. You can record and photograph any of 14 key seaweeds that indicate change.
