MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow have shared this study.  It  has been published in Landscape and Urban Planning (July 2022).

The study describes ‘real’ use of natural spaces (which includes local greenspace) and private gardens within neighbourhoods. It found that 15% of children’s time outdoors, outside school hours, was within Natural Space. Children’s time outdoors rose to 41% when private gardens were included, highlighting the importance of these spaces.

This also includes a discussion about the importance of greenspace within children’s home neighbourhood.

This research suggests that the inclusion of natural spaces within a 20-minute neighbourhood are extremely important to children, particularly those from the more deprived areas.
