In this article in The Conversation (11 March, 2021) John J Reilly, University of Strathclyde and Mark S Tremblay, L’Université d’Ottawa/University of Ottawa argue that if we want to avoid playing outside becoming a thing of the past, we need to restore the habit in our children after lockdown. The authors refer to their pre-lockdown report that found that only around a third of Scottish primary school children played outside regularly; two-thirds did not have the habit at all. It includes a lovely video that makes the case for play in nature.
