Guide to Planning Career-long Professional Learning for teachers

Getting Started: Are you interested in working with teachers and schools to improve their interest and confidence in delivering outdoor learning themselves; or gaining knowledge, understanding and skills in sustainability, and/or the natural world? Are you relatively new to the art of ‘facilitation’ and training skills, and feel you need some support through exploring and sharing good practice, before you start?

Are you interested in getting to grips with the new regulations set by the General Teaching Council for Scotland for Registration and Professional Standards for teachers? Happily they are underpinned by an ethos of sustainability (environmental, social and economic), and caring for the natural world, also highlighting the place of outdoor learning and teaching for all teachers.

If your answer to any of the above is ‘yes’, then this may be the resource to get you started.

Who is this for?
This resource is targeted at any outdoor learning practitioners across Scotland. Particularly Ranger Services, and those practitioners working with schools, who feel overwhelmed by the demand already, and are thinking that supporting teachers to take their students outdoors themselves may be a more resource effective way to go, for the future.

There is always something to learn, so whether experienced in working with teachers directly or not, there should be something in this resource for you, helping you in your own professional development.

What does it offer? The resource is divided into 3 Units covering different aspects of what is now called Career-long Professional Learning (CLPL) for teachers (previously teacher training, in-service training, or Continuing Professional Development).

•Unit 1 About Professional Standards for Teachers
•Unit 2 Working with Curriculum for Excellence and Schools
•Unit 3 About Planning and Delivering CLPL for Teachers
Find the full introduction document included in the download. There you will find a detailed summary of the contents of each Unit.
