The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 introduced new duties on planning authorities to assess the sufficiency of outdoor play opportunities for children and young people in their area and use the assessments to inform their Local Development Plan.

Greenspace Scotland have shared the news that East Lothian is one of the earliest Councils to implement Play Sufficiency Assessments (PSAs) in the new National Planning Framework 4 cycle, approved on 23rd April.

East Lothian Council have published both a summary report and the PSA Technical Report and Appendices.

National Planning Framework 4 stipulates that new, replacement or improved play provision of a range of play experiences include (ii) opportunities to connect with nature.
