The Young Tree Champions programme supports schools towards achieving exemplary status for outdoor learning and nature engagement in Scotland this year. Everything is free and the deadline for applications to the Young Tree Champions programme is now midnight 10th November 2024.
In return for running a tree and nature engagement project as part of the curriculum or extra activities this year, the Young Tree Champions programme offers the following free of charge:
- Fruit or hedgerow trees (optional)
- Wildlife tech (digital microscope etc)
- In-person workshops in tree care and connection for pupils from myself
- In-person or online CPD for staff (example here)
This fits with Eco Schools, John Muir, LEAF and Junior Forester Awards.
Progress to Beacon status and become exemplary for other schools in your area. You then receive more trees, tech and support for outdoor learning.
Schools with hard surfaced grounds can create tree containers through a fun workshop. These can be moved if you are in decant.
Email Luisa Brown – Regional Lead for Scotland for further advice and support.
